BAD BRIGITS preview

Netflix is heading to Ireland next month for the start of production on BAD BRIDGETS, a new film bringing together a striking lineup of Irish acting talent and behind-the-scenes professionals. The story follows two sisters who flee an abusive father, poverty, and hunger, undertaking a perilous journey to the United States in search of a better life. Once they arrive in New York, they fall in with a group of fellow Irish women known as the “Bridgets,” whose escapades stir up plenty of chaos across the city.

The cast announced so far is a true showcase of Irish screen talent, with Colin Farrell, Domhnall Gleeson, Niamh Algar, Alison Oliver, and Simone Kirby all set to star. Among them is Mullingar native Niamh Algar, recognised for her gripping work in the crime drama CALM WITH HORSES and Channel 4’s THE VIRTUES. Filming will take place on location across Northern Ireland and Ireland starting in mid-July.

Behind the camera is Rich Peppiatt, who directs, writes, and produces the project. Peppiatt is no stranger to acclaim, having taken home a Bafta last year in the Outstanding Debut category for his film KNEECAP. BAD BRIDGETS was developed with support from Queen’s University Belfast and is being produced with backing from Northern Ireland Screen, drawing its inspiration from the literary works of “Bad Bridget” by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick.
