Beatles biopic lands Irish talent

Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes will bring The Beatles to life in a new format with Irish actors Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan lined up for major roles. Mescal, fresh from his Oscar-nominated performance in AFTERSUN, is cast as Paul McCartney. Barry Keoghan, another Oscar nominee known for his role in THE BANSHEES OF INSIHERIN, will take on the character of Ringo Starr.

September 15In a new Guardian piece, BLITZ, the upcoming movie from Oscar-winning British film director, Sir Steve McQueen, is profiled. The film, starring Saoirse Ronan (THE OUTRUN), examines terrors that London underwent during the second world war. McQueen said, “BLITZ is a movie about Lon­doners. It honours the spirit of what and how Londoners endured during the blitz, but also explores the true representation of people in London. September 13KNEECAP, a rollicking look at the titular hip hop trio, will return to theaters in a big way. The indie film will get re-released in 154 theaters across the country this coming weekend. The renewed theatrical push coincides with the band’s return to the States this month for a tour to support their new album, “Fine Art.” It’s a visit that will see the group hit venues in places like Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago, Louisville and Washington, D.C. The film has been selected as Ireland’s entry for the Academy Award for best international feature this year. September 6Liam Neeson has been tapped to lead a new comedy movie. The 72-year-old actor is in talks to join the cast of 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK. Neeson will play former bank robber Danny who is the doting grandfather of Paige, played by Ryder. When Paige hears her grandfather’s ex-gang is roping him into one more steal, she decides to enlist her three best friends to rob the bank the day before to save him the trouble of doing so.
