When the independent Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon snagged its first Oscar nomination a decade ago with THE SECRET OF KELLS, pretty much everybody went “What the hell is that?” That’s according to Paul Young, who, with his art-school friends Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey, founded the Kilkenny-based studio in 1999. They have since made two more feature films, SONG OF THE SEA and THE BREADWINNER, both of them also best animated feature Oscar nominees.
