Ciaran Hinds on playing “Pop”

A veteran stage and screen actor who has been working onscreen since 1977, Hinds has appeared in more than 60 films, including Road to PERDITION, MUNICH, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, TINKER TAILER SOLDIER SPY, and the final HARRY POTTER film, among others. But it was the role of the sweet and sage grandfather in Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film that brought him the closest he’s been to his home, BELFAST, in a long time.

Negga wins Independent Spirit Award

Ruth Negga has won best supporting actress at the Independent Spirit Awards for her performance in Rebecca Hall’s PASSING. The actress, from Limerick, will see this as some consolation for unexpectedly not being nominated at the upcoming Academy Awards. Playing a black woman passing for white in 1920s Harlem, Negga has received universal acclaim since Passing premiered at the Sundance Film Festival over a year ago. She is nominated at the upcoming Bafta awards and was a winner with the London Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics.
