First Look: PEAKY BLINDERS movie

It was confirmed in April that the PEAKY BLINDERS movie starts filming in September, and we now have proof that production is underway from Netflix. “By order of the Peaky Blinders… Tommy Shelby is back,” says Netflix, who made the official announcement that the cameras are rolling by sharing a photo of Cillian Murphy (SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE) reprising his iconic role. So far, the only confirmed cast starring alongside Murphy are Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth, but Netflix has yet to give us a preview of these stars in action.

The trailer for SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE, starring Cillian Murphy in the lead, is out! Directed by Tim Mielants, the historical drama is based on the eponymous novel by Claire Keegan. The trailer shows Murphy as a coal worker, who, while delivering coal across the town, finds dark secrets about a local convent and how it treats its women. While he wants to help the women there, he is also conflicted about revealing the secret as the Church and the convent are important institutions in the small Irish town.

Murphy Returns As Tommy Shelby

Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy is set to return as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby in a PEAKY BLINDERS movie. The film, made in collaboration with the BBC, will be directed by Tom Harper and penned by series creator Steven Knight. Murphy, who recently won his first Best Actor Oscar for OPPENHEIMER expressed his excitement about revisiting the iconic character. “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans,” the actor said in a statement.

28 YEARS LATER begins filming

Danny Boyle’s zombie film, a sequel to 2007’s 28 WEEKS LATER, is currently shooting on Holy Island, a small island located in the north east of England. That’s not the only region it’s taken over. According to a report by the BBC, “film crews have been seen in Newcastle, Kielder Forest and, most prominently, on Holy Island for the past three weeks.” Written by Alex Garland, the upcoming third installment won’t be the last. A second 28 DAYS LATER sequel recruits Marvel director Nia DaCosta, as Boyle’s only signed up to direct the first one.

Murphy named IFTA Best Actor

PEAKY BLINDERS legend Cillian Murphy capped off his domination of awards season by claiming the top acting prize for film on home soil. The Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG award winner on Saturday night added perhaps a final statue to his flawless haul for Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER, when he was named best lead actor at the 21st Irish Film and TV Academy Awards. Murphy’s next project SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE earned the actor rave reviews following it’s Opening Night World Premiere at Berlinale 2024.

Cillian Murphy is keeping himself busy following his recent OPPENHEIMER Oscar win, with the Irish actor lined up to star in a film adaptation of BLOOD RUNS COAL, the true crime story of the murder of Joseph Yablonski and his family by a rival mining labor leader in the 1960s. The film is the latest project Murphy has added to his busy schedule, with the Cork native recently confirmed to be reprising his role as gangster Tommy Shelby in the big screen adaptation of the BBC drama PEAKY BLINDERS.

The forthcoming PEAKY BLINDERS movie, being filmed in the West Midlands, is due to start shooting in September. The show’s creator, Steven Knight, has confirmed that Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Thomas Shelby. It is being shot in Digbeth, amid plans to grow the film industry in the city with 760 new jobs. He also praised Murphy’s performance in OPPENHEIMER, saying that the Best Actor Academy Award he won earlier this month “was so deserved.”
