Paul Mescal in new GLADIATOR 2 trailer

More than two decades on, Ridley Scott’s seminal, best picture-winning action epic GLADIATOR is getting a sequel—and, by all accounts, it’s going to be a corker. Starring a hulking Paul Mescal, now a world away from NORMAL PEOPLE’S sensitive Connell Waldron, as Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla and the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus, it’ll see our magnetic lead step into the arena and fight to the death.

Mescal’s GLADIATOR challenge

Paul Mescal

Ridley Scott’s GLADIATOR 2 hits theatres on Nov 22 with ALL OF US STRANGERS star Paul Mescal and already the industry is doing the math on what would make the sequel a success. The first movie starring Russell Crowe’s Maximus made $460 million at the box office during its initial release. It remains Scott’s record high even as GLADIATOR 2 approaches. Even if the sequel manages to surpass the original’s total, it will take making significantly more for the sequel to match the first movie’s performance and profitability.
