Deadline is reporting that Ruth Negga is set to star in the limited series PRESUMED INNOCENT, joining Jake Gyllenhaal. Negga will portray Barbara Sabich, an “artist, gallerist, mother and wife.” Barbara is personally affected by the case as her husband, Rusty, was the person accused and the victim is Rusty’s mistress. Now, Barbara must deal with the massively publicized trial while dealing with a broken heart and trying to protect her family.

The actress, from Limerick, will see this as some consolation for unexpectedly not being nominated at the upcoming Academy Awards. Playing a black woman passing for white in 1920s Harlem, Negga has received universal acclaim since Passing premiered at the Sundance Film Festival over a year ago. She is nominated at the upcoming Bafta awards and was a winner with the London Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics.
