Ronan new face of Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton has named Irish actor Saoirse Ronan as their newest ambassador. The actress, who can currently be seen in FOE on Amazon Prime has been acting for the past two decades and has been lauded for her work in films such as LITTLE WOMEN, LADY BIRD, BROOKLYN, and ATONEMENT, among others. She has been cited by The New York Times as of the greatest actors of the 21st century. In January of this year, her film THE OUTRUN – which she stars in and produced – received glowing reviews at its Sundance Film Festival premiere, with Ronan in attendance wearing Louis Vuitton. She is also set to be seen on screens later this year in Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated war drama, BLITZ.

Cillian Murphy for 28 DAYS LATER sequel

A long-awaited sequel to the zombie flick 28 DAYS LATER has officially been greenlit at Sony – with OPPENHEIMER lead Cillian Murphy to executive produce and possibly star. Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have returned, with Boyle directing Part One and Garland penning the script. The original film follows a bicycle courier (Murphy) who wakes up from a coma only to find that a virus (dubbed the ‘rage virus’) has all but destroyed society.

Paul Mescal to star in HAMNET

Paul Mescal

In an interview with Vogue U.K., Academy award nominee Paul Mescal says he is set to play William Shakespeare in the upcoming film adaptation of Lolita Chakrabarti’s newest work, HAMNET. The work, described as “a love letter to passion, birth, grief, and the magic of nature,” is based on Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling novel of the same name, which explores the personal life of Shakespeare and his wife after they suffer the loss of their 11-year-old son to the plague. Directed by Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao, Mescal also states that the film adaptation will co-star Jessie Buckley, recently seen in the West End as Sally Bowles in CABARET, for which she received an Olivier.

KNEECAP makes history at Sundance

Rich Peppiatt’s KNEECAP has won an Audience Award at the renowned Sundance Film Festival in Utah. It marks the first Irish language feature film to win at the festival. Based on the origin story of the riotous and ground-breaking Irish-language rap trio Kneecap, the film stars the band’s Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí in their acting debuts alongside Academy Award® nominated Michael Fassbender (THE KILLER, NEXT GOAL WINS), Jessica Reynolds (OUTLANDER) and Josie Walker (BELFAST, THE WONDER). Set in west Belfast in 2019, it chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they then go on to “change the sound of Irish music forever”.

Brosnan to receive Oscar Wilde Award

Pierce Brosnan to receive Oscar Wilde Award! The US-Ireland Alliance will honor Irish actor Pierce Brosnan (FAST CHARLIE, THE OUTLAWS) with the Oscar Wilde Award at its annual event in March, honoring Brosnan’s glittering acting career. The Oscar Wilde Awards, which celebrate those from Ireland and those with Irish roots, will take place on March 7. Trina Vargo, founder of the US-Ireland Alliance, said in a statement that the organization is honored to be paying tribute to one of the most successful Irish actors in history.

POOR THINGS makes Irish Oscar history

POOR THINGS has set an Oscar record and become the most Academy Award nominated Irish-produced film of all time after it received 11 nods at today’s announcement for the 2024 awards. The film, which stars Emma Stone and was directed by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, received 11 Academy Award nominations – Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Hair and Make Up, and Best Supporting Actor, and Best Costume Design. POOR THINGS was produced and developed by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe and the team at Dublin-based Element Pictures.
