Colm Meaney is set to star in indie pic THE PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE. The film is a heart-warming comedy about two estranged cousins making amends for many generations of a family dispute. The story follows Ciáran (Meaney), who lives in rural Ireland with his elderly and ailing father who, bemoaning the sorry state of the world and its never-ending conflicts, decides that if he can’t fix the world’s problems, he can at least try to fix his family. As his dying wish, he asks his son to reach out to the American side of the family and make peace.

Niamh Algar in MALPRACTICE

Line of Duty producer World Productions has announced plans for a medical drama starring Irish actress Niamh Algar. MALPRACTICE will be directed by Boiling Point’s Philip Barantini and written by former doctor Grace Ofori-Attah. The five-part ITV series will follow Dr Lucinda Edwards on a nightmare shift that ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim, Edith Owusu.

Acclaimed Northern Irish actor Sir Kenneth Branagh is completely un-recognisable in the first trailer for new Sky drama THIS ENGLAND. It seems Billie Jean King really did say, “Pressure is a privilege.” The team behind the imminent adaptation of Sally Rooney’s CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS have reason to ponder the tennis legend’s durable observation. NORMAL PEOPLE, broadcast in the spring of 2020, wasn’t any sort of everyday hit. It was a sensation. That take on Sally Rooney’s second novel ended up as the defining cultural artefact of the first Covid lockdown. Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones, breakout stars of the series, are now fronting films at Sundance and Cannes. Rooney’s status as voice of a generation was further elevated. RTÉ has announced that the eagerly awaited TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s acclaimed debut novel CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS will begin on May 18. The series will air over six weeks, with two new episodes each Wednesday night. The drama follows the global success of the TV adaptation of Rooney’s book NORMAL PEOPLE in 2020. The series tells the story of a 21-year-old Dublin-based college student called Frances, who, along with her friend Bobbi, becomes involved in the life of a married couple, Melissa and Nick.
