FLORA AND SON for Oscar glory?

Irish director John Carney’s musical-comedy FLORA AND SON, is set for two submissions for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars. Out of the 18 song tracklist, Apple has chosen to submit ‘High Life,’ and ‘Meet in the Middle’ songs composed by Carney, Gary Clark and Flora and Son lead actor Eve Hewson. Shot on location in Dublin’s city centre, FLORA AND SON stars Hewson (daughter of U2’s Bono) as a struggling single mother living in The Liberties, attempting to rekindle her relationship with her estranged son, through the connective power of music.

The reviews are in for ONCE director, John Carney’s FLORA AND SON. Single mom, Flora (Eve Hewson), struggles to keep her son Max (Orén Kinlan) out of trouble in Dublin. She gets the idea to give her teenager a guitar, but he quickly refuses it in all his teenage angst. Hewson does an impeccable job as Flora, the movie’s heart and soul. The film will be available in theaters on September 22nd and on Apple TV+ on September 29th.

BAD SISTERS star Eva Hewson will appear in Mia DaCosta’s film HEDDA, a reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s famous play “Hedda Gabler.” The 31-year-old Irish actress is set to join Tessa Thompson in the new film, which is directed and written by Mia Da Costa (THE MARVELS, CANDYMAN). According to Deadline, the upcoming film is billed as “an epic and visceral reimagination of Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1891 stage play Hedda Gabler.” The original work centers around the daughter of a general trapped in an unwanted marriage.

Hewson is a rising star who drew rave reviews out of Sundance for her starring turn opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in John Carney’s Dublin-set musical dramedy FLORA AND SON, which was swooped on at the festival by Apple at a price just under $20M, and is slated for release this fall.
