DERRY GIRLS star Saoirse-Monica Jackson is back on our screens in THE DECAMERON. According to Netflix, the series depicts the ‘all-too-timely theme of class struggles in the season of a pandemic, as a cast of misfits try to outlast the bubonic plague pandemic in 1348 Florence’. Netflix has described Saoirse’s character Misia as a ‘co-dependent servant of Pampinea (Mamet). She adores her demanding master and derives much self-worth from pleasing her.’
Conan O’Brien has won an Creative Arts Emmy for the Ireland episode of his HBO Max travel show, CONAN O-BRIEN MUST GO. The episode, which won in the Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program category, revolves around O’Brien’s quest to trace his family’s roots. He visits the Barack Obama plaza in Tipperary and learns Irish slang but, also takes a cameo role on Irish-language soap opera ROS NA RUN, where he is credited as ‘Fear na mBalún’.
HBO Max has launched a new trailer for THE PENGUIN the drama series starring Colin Farrell which continues the epic The Batman crime saga. The eight-episode series continues THE BATMAN epic crime saga that filmmaker Matt Reeves began with Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster it centres on the character played by Farrell in the film. The new HBO Original Limited Series premieres Sept 19.
Eve Hewson (BEHIND HER EYES), daughter of U2 frontman Bono and activist Ali Hewson, can now be seen in THE PERFECT COUPLE on Netflix. On the heels of FLORA AND SON and BAD SISTERS, Hewson continues to carve out an impressive career for herself in acting. In the new Netflix series, Hewson plays Amelia Sacks, a down-to-earth Central Park zookeeper who is about to marry into a wealthy Nantucket family ruled by a matriarch named Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman), a best-selling author obsessed with maintaining her family’s pristine image.
Irish actor Jack Reynor (SING STREET) will star in Netflix murder-mystery THE PERFECT COUPLE. The show is an adaptation of the 2018 novel of the same name by American author Elin Hilderbrand, dubbed “the queen of beach reads” by New York Magazine. Reynor joins fellow Irish talent, Eve Hewson (BAD SISTERS), who plays the lead role of Amelia Sacks who is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket. THE PERFECT COUPLE is set to be released on September 5 on Netflix.
PASSING star Ruth Negga has had a busy year shooting major projects for the big streaming platforms. The Irish actress can now be seen in both PRESUMED INNOCENT and GOOD GRIEF. The impressive cast also includes Billy Howle, who plays the groom Benji, and Irish actor Jack Reynor, who plays his brother, Thomas. Dakota Fanning also graces the screen as Thomas’ wife. THE BANSHEES OF ENISHERIN star Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast of Prime Video’s SPIDER-NOIR. Gleeson joins Nicholas Cage as the title hero, who “tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” This marks one of Gleeson’s first announced project since his Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated turn in THE BANSHEES OF ENISHERIN.
