The second season of the popular crime drama series is on the way later this month on RTÉ One. The returning cast for season two includes Charlie Cox as Michael, as Amanda, Aidan Gillen as Frank, Sam Keeley as Viking, Emmett J. Scanlan as Jimmy, Maria Doyle Kennedy as Birdy, and Yasmin Seky as Nikita. Ciarán Hinds as rival gang leader Eamon Cunningham will naturally not be back, for reasons that will be clear to those who’ve watched the debut season.

Dornan returns in TOURIST S2

Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald are heading to Ireland for the second season of the thriller series THE TOURIST. The first season, which aired on the BBC in January 2022, became the most-watched drama of the year in the U.K. and won three Golden Nymphs awards at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The new six-part thriller, commissioned by the BBC in association with Stan and ZDF, was created and written by Jack and Harry Williams and produced by award-winning Two Brothers Pictures (BAPTISTE, THE MISSING, FLEABAG) in association with All3Media International. Shooting is set to start this spring.

THE DRY on RTÉ One

As Dublin-set series THE DRY starts on RTÉ One March 1st, stars Roísín Gallagher and Moe Dunford tell David Roy what viewers can expect from this comedy drama centred on a dysfunctional family, which also features Belfast acting royalty Ciarán Hinds. Produced by BritBox in partnership with RTE, the eight-part series is written by Bafta-nominated playwright and screenwriter Nancy Harris and directed by Paddy Breathnach (ROSIE, I WENT DOWN).

NEESON on STAR WARS

Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson has shared a controversial opinion he has about the Disney Plus STAR WARS series, and answered if he’d return for a Qui-Gon Jinn spin-off series. Neeson starred in the first Star Wars movie prequel, THE PHANTOM MENACE, as Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn where he acted as the mentor to both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was killed by the Sith Darth Maul, but became a fan favourite character for his calm demeanour and wisdom.

BRIDGERTON and DERRY GIRLS star Nicola Coughlan has landed a major role in a new Channel 4 comedy.The Galway native is set to star as MAGGIE IN BIG MOOD (working title) alongside IT’S A SIN‘sLydia West, who will play her best friend Eddie. The six-part series is described as “vivacious and rebellious portrayal of female friendship when infiltrated by the complexities of a serious mental illness.” Announcing the news on her Instagram account, Nicola admitted that it’s been a “dream” of hers to work with show creator and longtime pal Camilla Whitehill.

Niamh Algar in MALPRACTICE

ITV has released the first image of Niamh Algar in medical thriller MALPRACTICE, where she plays a doctor suspected of wrongdoing following the death of a patient. The series comes from the mind of former NHS doctor Grace Ofori-Attah, whose earlier television work includes Idris Elba sitcom In the Long Run, while directing duties are being handled by BAFTA nominee Philip Barantini (THE RESPONDER). The five-part drama follows Dr Lucinda Edwards (Algar) as she is investigated following the death of an opioid overdose victim named Edith Owusu (Sherelle Armstrong).

DERRY GIRLS wins at Broadcast Awards 2023

Lisa McGee’s Northern Irish hit comedy DERRY GIRLS has been crowned champion of the Best Comedy Programme category at the Broadcast Awards 2023. The show also picked up the award for TV Moment of the Year at this year’s ceremony. “The show is comedy genius on every level,” said one judge, with another noting the consistently strong performances from the entire cast. McGee’s writing and ability to create “loveable, funny characters who you grow to love as friends” was another highlight for the judges, alongside the show’s “belly laughs with a strong political core”.
