KNEECAP in theatres Aug 2

Wildcard Distribution has announced today that Rich Peppiatt’s award-winning feature film KNEECAP will open in Irish cinemas on August 2. Based on the origin story of the riotous and ground-breaking Irish-language rap trio, the film stars the band’s Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí in their acting debuts alongside Academy Award nominated Michael Fassbender. Set in West Belfast in 2019, it chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they then go on to “change the sound of Irish music forever”.

THE OUTRUN trailer

A highly-anticipated trailer for the new Saoirse Ronan film THE OUTRUN has been released. Based on Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir and directed by Nora Fingscheidt, the movie stars Saoirse Ronan (FOE) and Paapa Essiedu, a life-changing escape into the wilds of Orkney. The Oscar nominee gives one of her greatest performances as a young woman grappling with addiction in a moving and delicate adaptation of Liptrot’s memoir.

28 YEARS LATER begins filming

Danny Boyle’s zombie film, a sequel to 2007’s 28 WEEKS LATER, is currently shooting on Holy Island, a small island located in the north east of England. That’s not the only region it’s taken over. According to a report by the BBC, “film crews have been seen in Newcastle, Kielder Forest and, most prominently, on Holy Island for the past three weeks.” Written by Alex Garland, the upcoming third installment won’t be the last. A second 28 DAYS LATER sequel recruits Marvel director Nia DaCosta, as Boyle’s only signed up to direct the first one.

Hollywood’s breakout star Paul Mescal is about to embark on his longest movie yet, with production taking course over the next two decades. The NORMAL PEOPLE star has started filming the adaptation of the hit stage musical MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, a story that follows three friends throughout – you guessed it – the 20 years from college to middle age. Helmed by BOYHOOD director Richard Linklater, Paul plays Hollywood producer Franklin Shephard who has a turbulent relationship with longtime friends theatre critic Charley Kringas.

BIRD, starring SALTBURN star Barry Keoghan, has debuted at Cannes In Competition and chronicles a young girl from two very broken squats in northern Kent who must find her way to survive emotionally. Bug (Keoghan) suddenly declares notice that he’s getting married and introduces a new toddler daughter-to-be, his bride, and a purple glittery leopard skin bridesmaid two-piece outfit in hand for Bailey to wear to his wedding in just a matter of days or weeks.

Liam Neeson in MONGOOSE

Irish action star Liam Neeson has lined up his next action thriller, with the TAKEN star set to lead MONGOOSE for Amazon Prime Video. The film will see Neeson back in the action movie driving seat as a war hero who, after being accused of a crime he did not commit, leads police on a cross-country car chase. Andrew Scott in THE QUEEN’S GUARD

RIPLEY star Andrew Scott has landed a role in new audio series THE QUEEN’S GAURD. The new project from erotic audio app Quinn will see the actor play Robb the Protector and will launch May 16th. This isn’t the only audio project Scott has taken on recently, with the star lending his voice talents to an Audible production of George Orwell’s 1984 alongside Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy and Cynthia Erivo. The SHERLOCK actor is having quite the year, having recently won acclaim for his starring role in ALL OF US STRANGERS.
