THE DRY series, starring Ciaran Hinds and Roisin Gallagher, is returning to RTÉ One and RTÉ Player for its second season. The acclaimed comedy-drama series is produced by Element Pictures, who scooped a number of Oscars earlier this year for POOR THINGS. Season two picks up seven months on from the events of the first season and will see the Sheridan family in their new state of normality.
FAST CHARLIE star Pierce Brosnan has been cast in THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB, an adaptation of the debut novel by Richard Osman (creator and co-presenter of the BBC quiz show POINTLESS. The film will tell the story of four septuagenarian friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun. Filming will take place this Summer in England, with Chris Columbus (HOME ALONE) set to direct.
For the second year in a row, Paul Mescal has earned recognition for his acting talents at the IFTA Awards. Marking his third IFTA award, Mescal claimed the Best Supporting Actor for his role in ALL OF US STRANGERS with RIPLEY‘s Andrew Scott. The Irish actor, who shot to fame in BBC series NORMAL PEOPLE, was spotted on the set of his upcoming movie THE HISTORY OF SOUND, which is currently being shot in Italy.
PEAKY BLINDERS legend Cillian Murphy capped off his domination of awards season by claiming the top acting prize for film on home soil. The Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG award winner on Saturday night added perhaps a final statue to his flawless haul for Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER, when he was named best lead actor at the 21st Irish Film and TV Academy Awards. Murphy’s next project SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE earned the actor rave reviews following it’s Opening Night World Premiere at Berlinale 2024.

Teenage actress Alisha Weir has spoken about the duality of playing a “sweet, innocent girl” who is also a bloodthirsty vampire in her new horror film ABIGAIL. The Dublin-born actress, best known for her starring role in the big screen version of Matilda The Musical, plays the 12-year daughter of a powerful underworld figure who is kidnapped by a group of would-be criminals. Most recently seen opposite Paul Mescal in Garth Davis sci-fi thriller FOE, Saoirse Ronan is now heading for the world of education. She’ll play a teacher dealing with a very disruptive student in a new satirical pic BAD APPLES that marks the English-language debut of Swedish writer/director Jonatan Etzler. The plan is to shoot the movie this coming spring. Ronan, meanwhile, will next be seen in Steve McQueen’s BLITZ and addiction drama THE OUTRUN.
THE LAST RIFLEMAN star Pierce Brosnan has been slated to portray Dublin native and Irish boxing training legend Brendan Ingle in GIANT, an upcoming biopic about former world featherweight champion ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed whom Ingle trained. The film follows the true story of Naseem Hamed’s tough working-class upbringing in Sheffield and his discovery by Brendan Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer and begins shooting in Leeds later this month.
