Eagle-eyed fans have caught BANSHEES OF INISHERIN star Brendan Gleeson in the new trailer for THE JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX. The official trailer for the upcoming filming, in which Lady Gaga stars opposite Joaquin, debuted at ComicCon in Las Vegas earlier this week. Gleeson is heard hollering ‘Wakey, wakey!’ in the opening scene of the trailer, suggesting he’ll portray a guard in Arkham Asylum where Joker and Harley Quinn are housed.
Next month’s 77th Cannes Film Festival will feature an unprecedented Irish presence with three films produced by Dublin’s Element Pictures to form part of the official selection. KINDS OF KINDNESS reunites Element Pictures with POOR THINGS director Yorgos Lanthimos, THE APPRENTICE, a biopic about the early years of Donald Trump by Iran-born director Ali Abbasi, includes the Dublin-based Tailored Films among its producers and BIRD, starring SALTBURN star Barry Keoghan, will also receive its world premiere and screen in competition at the festival.
SALTBURN star Barry Keoghan will star in AMO SADDAM, with filming set to start in September. The plot of the movie unfolds over a period of six months leading up to Saddam Hussein’s execution, focusing on the evolving relationship between an American soldier (Keoghan) and the former dictator. Keoghan’s recent roles include Lt. Curtis Biddick in Apple TV+’s MASTERS OF THE AIR and Jonny in Netflix’s TOP BOY.

Fresh from its success at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January, rambunctious Irish-language film KNEECAP will open the 11th edition of Sundance Film Festival London. The documentary won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award: NEXT in January and is the real-life story of how an anarchic Belfast rap trio became the unlikely figureheads of a civil rights movement to save and reinvigorate their mother tongue. The infectious documentary’s UK Premiere takes place on 6 June.
