Scott in BACK IN ACTION

SHERLOCK alum Andrew Scott is among the latest stars to join Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx’s upcoming Netflix movie BACK IN ACTION. According to Deadline, Scott will be joining the project alongside his FLEABAG co-star Jamie Demetriou, who played Bus Rodent on the acclaimed comedy-drama series. Scott is best known for his role as Jim Moriarty in the BBC series SHERLOCK, for which he won a BAFTA. He also earned a Golden Globe nomination and won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for his role as The Priest on FLEABAG.

Irish stars Anne-Marie Duff, Sharon Horgan, Siobhán McSweeney, Cillian Murphy, Graham Norton, and Fiona Shaw are among the nominees for the BAFTA Television Awards in the UK. DERRY GIRLS McSweeney is shortlisted for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme, and the show is also nominated for Scripted Comedy and Writer: Comedy for writer-creator Lisa McGee. PEAKY BLINDERS star Murphy is among the nominees for Leading Actor for his role as Tommy Shelby. It is Murphy’s first BAFTA nomination for his performance as Shelby across six seasons of the show – and PEAKY BLINDERS sole nomination this year.

DERRY GIRLS alum Siobhán McSweeney will star in REDEMPTION. Featuring a stellar cast that includes a few familiar faces, the six-part crime drama follows Liverpool-based DI Colette Cunningham after she learns that her estranged daughter Kate has taken her own life. Famed for her hilarious portrayal of Sister Michael in the hit comedy series, Siobhán has also become well known for hosting Channel 4’s reality competition, THE GREAT POTTERY THROW DOWN.

James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan, will be playing Billy McDermott on Netflix’s THE OUTLAWS. Tyler Spindel is serving as the director, whose credits include FATHER OF THE YEAR, DEPORTED and THE WRONG MISSY. Production of the comedy movie is completely set in Atlanta, Georgia. So far, Netflix has confirmed the movie will release in 2023.

Deadline is reporting that Ruth Negga is set to star in the limited series PRESUMED INNOCENT, joining Jake Gyllenhaal. Negga will portray Barbara Sabich, an “artist, gallerist, mother and wife.” Barbara is personally affected by the case as her husband, Rusty, was the person accused and the victim is Rusty’s mistress. Now, Barbara must deal with the massively publicized trial while dealing with a broken heart and trying to protect her family.

The Banshees of Inisherin

Martin McDonagh’s THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN has received 11 nominations for the 20th-anniversary Irish Film & Television Awards. The team behind the black comedy, up for nine Oscars at this weekend’s ceremony, will not be surprised to have scored the most nods from the home academy. The film is, however, just one ahead of Frank Berry’s moving social-realist drama AISHA. The four acting Oscar nominees from Banshees will also compete for Iftas at the ceremony on Sunday, May 7th. Colin Farrell is up for best actor. Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson are nominated as best supporting actor. Kerry Condon is surely strong favourite in best supporting actress.
