LINE OF DUTY actor Adrian Dunbar is back with a new detective drama. The Northern Irish actor, 64, has delighted fans with news that he is returning to his detective roots after they fell in love with him as the BBC show’s Superintendent Ted Hastings. Dunbar is fronting ITV’s new crime drama as the show’s title character retired Detective Inspector Ridley.
Irish-language drama THE QUIET GIRL (An Cailín Ciúin) has been selected as Ireland’s entry for best international feature film at next year’s Academy Awards. Told almost entirely in the Irish language, the film recounts the story of a neglected young girl named Cáit (Catherine Clinch) who spends a memorable and formative summer with relations.
An Irish town has been transformed into a set as filming for Pierce Brosnan’s new movie takes place. Those in Antrim recalled a great “buzz and excitement” around the town on Friday as the Market Square area was transformed into a French village for the filming of THE LAST RIFLEMAN. Filming began in Antrim Castle Gardens, before moving into the town, where World War Two era jeeps were spotted alongside French flags, bunting, and a number of buildings being turned into French bars and shops.
Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson will co-star in the new FX thriller THE PATIENT with Steve Carell. In the 10 episode limited series, Steve Carell plays a therapist held hostage by his serial killer patient. According to EW, the psychological thriller will follow shrink Alan Strauss (Carell) as he helps the troubled Sam Fortner (Gleeson) “navigate complex emotions.”
The trailer for new Irish-language movie RÓISE AND FRANK, which is set to hit cinemas on September 16, has been released. The eagerly-awaited movie takes place in the Gaeltacht area in Ring, Co. Waterford, and tells the story of the recently widowed Róise (Bríd Ní Neachtain) who is struggling in the aftermath of her husband Frank’s passing.
Brendan Gleeson, a native of Dublin, has been nominated in the Outstanding Actor In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series category for the 2022 Emmy Awards for his role as Scott in STATE OF THE UNION. This is Gleeson’s second Emmy nomination. In 2009, he was nominated – and won – in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries Or Movie for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in INTO THE STORM.
Jack Reynor is set to feature in the upcoming thriller MOTHER’S MILK, starring Hilary Swank and Olivia Cooke. The film recently wrapped shooting in New York. It is directed by Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, who also wrote the script with Madison Harrison. Reynor, 30, is known for his roles in WHAT RICHARD DID, SING STREET and MIDSOMMAR.
Colin Farrell will star in THIRTEEN LIVES, a new film depicting the aquatic rescue of 12 young footballers from a cave in Thailand. The film follows the expedition to save the youngsters and their coach, who became trapped after the cave flooded in 2018. Directed by Ron Howard, the film stars Farrell and Viggo Mortensen as divers John Volanthen and Richard Stanton respectively.
