THE QUIET GIRL is one of two Irish films that have been ranked among the best movies of 2022 by Rotten Tomatoes. The film scored an enviable 100% on the ‘Tomatometer,’ receiving high marks from nearly 50 critics. US audiences will finally have the chance to see it, which is Ireland’s official entry in the International Feature category for the 2023 Oscars, in theaters this month.

When Jessie Buckley first read Sarah Polley’s script for WOMEN TALKING, it bothered her. There they were, a bunch of women sitting in a barn in the back-blocks of Canada, talking about what they were going to do with their lives: they wouldn’t let her go. “There was so much unknown within it, which was the best part of it, because it kept nagging me,” she says. “Even after I’d read the original book and met Sarah, it was something that kept just returning. I was like, ‘Get out! Get out of my head!’”
Cillian Murphy will play the father of the hydrogen bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer. A man who, despite inventing the deadly weapon, wanted to place International controls on his dangerous invention, post-Hiroshima. Director Christopher Nolan is currently in post on the film. Filming had started on February 21 and ended on May 22 with a cast that includes Murphy, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh. Rami Malek and Robert Downey Jr.
Legendary film director Martin Scorsese has revealed he is a fan of the popular Irish TV show DERRY GIRLS. The Hollywood legend, 80, made the revelation while speaking at The Economic Club of Chicago annual black tie dinner last month. He was asked what TV show he was currently watching before he told the packed room that he is currently watching the Channel 4 sitcom.
Actor Michael Fassbender has described his portrayal of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands as the performance “closest to my heart out of all the work I have done”. The directional debut of future Oscar-winner Steve McQueen, the 2008 film HUNGER was a drama about the 1981 hunger strike by republican prisoners in the Maze prison. It won a host of international awards, including the prestigious Caméra d’Or award for first-time filmmakers and the Sydney Film Prize.
NORTH CIRCULAR is a documentary musical that travels the length of Dublin’s North Circular Road, from the Phoenix Park to Dublin Port, exploring the history, music and streetscapes of a street that links some of the country’s most beloved and infamous places. The film also includes musical performances from artists local to the North Circular, including Lisa O’Neill, John Francis Flynn, Séan Ó Túama, Eoghan O’Ceannabháin, Ian Lynch & Gemma Dunleavy.
NORMAL PEOPLE star Éanna Hardwicke has been cast in THE DOLL FACTORY with the Irish actor taking on role of Silas, a taxidermist. DERRY GIRLS star Saoirse Monica Jackson has also been cast in the supporting ensemble for the new series. Filming is currently underway in and around Dublin and will run until 2023.
